About The Position

The Clinical Educator identifies and provides ongoing training, coaching, and education for all employees. The role is responsible for ensuring all employees are provided a robust education program throughout the course of employment that enables them to master and demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed to perform their duties. Specifically ensuring that new employees are oriented to hospital policies and procedures, department managers orient and adequately train the employees in their respective departments, and all employees receive ongoing training and education that meets regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required
  • 5 years experience in a training or nurse management role in a health care setting required
  • Valid Texas RN license in good standing required
  • BLS and Handle With Care certification required
  • Must be 21 years old or older
  • Must obtain and maintain BLS CPR certification as well as successful completion of Management of Assaultive Behavior training including restraint and seclusion policies prior to assuming patient care responsibility
  • Teaching/adult learning theory and instructional methodologies and training; problem-solving; organizational and time management.
  • Principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • PC skills that Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
  • Business and management principles involved in strategic planning, customer service, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable of patient rights and laws pertaining to mental health and regulations pertaining to psychiatric nursing and the treatment of mentally and emotionally disturbed patients.
  • Advanced knowledge and clinical skills in diagnosis and treatment of mental health, professional nursing principles, procedures, and techniques used in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients, social, psychological, and physical factors of mental and emotional disorders, medical and psychological terminology, medications, including psychotropic drugs, and effects on psychiatric patients.
  • Control, preparation, and administration of medications.
  • Basic knowledge of abnormal psychology as typically found in the child or adolescent psychiatric population, application of this knowledge to child, adolescent or adult knowledge of medical terminology, especially those terms associated with child, adolescent, or adult psychiatric care; thorough familiarity of psychopharmacy and the use of psychotropic medications with child, adolescent or adult psychiatric population
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and function calmly in situations, which require a high degree of sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and responsive service.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Health related field preferred
  • Acute psychiatric care experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintains current knowledge of state and Joint Commission regulatory requirements.
  • Review and evaluate training and apprenticeship programs for compliance with CMS, JCAHO, and other regulatory standards.
  • Works closely with Human Resources to deliver and track new hire and ongoing training programs that ensure that all employees are able to demonstrate the skills, knowledge, and competencies.
  • Works closely with the Interdisciplinary team to develop adequate training content and programs for various departments and positions.
  • Identify and assess future and current training needs through job analysis, career paths, annual mandatory training roster, and consultation with the Interdisciplinary team.
  • Draw an overall or individualized training and development plan that addresses needs and expectations.
  • Deploy a wide variety of training methods.
  • Monitor and evaluate the training program’s effectiveness, success, and ROI periodically and report on them.
  • Provide opportunities for ongoing development.
  • Resolve any specific problems and tailor programs as necessary.
  • Maintain a keen understanding of training trends, developments, and best practices.
  • Participates in hospital committees and reports relevant information to hospital staff.
  • Maintains training records and documentation.
  • Develop testing and evaluation procedures.
  • Conduct or arrange for ongoing technical training and personal development classes for staff members.
  • Confer with management and conduct surveys to identify training needs based on projected production processes, changes, and other factors.
  • Develop and organize training manuals, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.
  • Plan, develop, and provide training and staff development programs, using knowledge of the effectiveness of methods such as classroom training, distance and e-learning, demonstrations, on-the-job training, meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • Analyze training needs to develop new training programs or modify and improve existing programs.
  • Supports the organization's strategic business development efforts.
  • Upholds the Organization's ethics and customer service standards.
