About The Position

At Nexus Children’s Hospital – Houston, we are dedicated to providing specialized inpatient care for children and adolescents with complex medical, behavioral, developmental, and neurobehavioral needs. Our team is committed to clinical excellence, compassionate care, and creating meaningful outcomes for the patients and families we serve. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Clinical Educator to join our team. This role is instrumental in supporting nursing excellence through staff development, onboarding, competency validation, and ongoing clinical education initiatives. The Clinical Educator serves as a leader, mentor, and clinical resource, helping to foster a culture of continuous learning and high-quality patient care. The Clinical Educator will play a key role in developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs aimed at enhancing the clinical knowledge and competencies of nursing staff. This position is responsible for fostering a supportive learning environment that promotes professional development and excellence in care. Additionally, the Clinical Educator will serve as the lead clinical facilitator for the onboarding and orientation of newly hired staff while providing ongoing guidance and support as a clinical resource.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Behavioral management and de-escalation training required per facility standards
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in a healthcare setting required
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to assess educational outcomes and implement process improvements
  • Proficiency with learning management systems and educational technologies
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or related field preferred
  • Prior experience in clinical education, training, or a similar role preferred
  • PALS certification preferred
  • Nursing Professional Development Certification (NPD-BC) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct needs assessments to identify areas for improvement in clinical practice
  • Ensure educational programs address competency gaps and support staff development needs
  • Design, develop, and deliver evidence-based educational programs aligned with organizational goals, professional standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Implement educational activities in a professional and timely manner
  • Adapt content and teaching strategies to meet diverse learning styles and learner needs
  • Document teaching, learning processes, and educational outcomes
  • Serve as the lead clinical facilitator for onboarding and orientation of newly hired nursing staff
  • Ensure new employees receive a structured and comprehensive introduction to clinical practices, policies, and organizational culture
  • Guide new nurses through clinical skills, workflows, and performance expectations in a supportive environment
  • Collaborate with department leadership to support retention and employee satisfaction
  • Partner with Human Resources to coordinate facility orientation for all new hires
  • Provide direct instruction, mentorship, coaching, and clinical guidance to nursing staff
  • Foster a collaborative learning environment that encourages critical thinking and evidence-based practice
  • Support the integration of best practices into patient care delivery
  • Serve as an ongoing clinical resource to nursing staff
  • Assist with clinical decision-making, troubleshooting patient care challenges, and competency support
  • Provide guidance related to complex patient care situations and clinical practice standards
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of educational initiatives through learner feedback, performance metrics, and outcome data
  • Utilize findings to revise and improve educational programming and nursing practice outcomes
  • Support staff in achieving continuing education requirements and professional certifications
  • Encourage lifelong learning and participation in professional development opportunities
  • Ensure educational programs remain compliant with regulatory and accrediting body standards
  • Ensure educational content aligns with hospital policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to integrate education into daily clinical practice and organizational culture
  • Remain current on emerging trends, evidence-based practices, and innovations in nursing education and patient care
  • Promote evidence-based practice initiatives to improve patient outcomes
  • Perform other duties as assigned
