The Clinical Athletic Trainer performs injury assessments and refers patients for necessary care. They communicate with patients to triage, answer questions, and instruct in self-care, prevention, and treatment. This role also involves communicating with the Physician and medical team to determine the need for special tests or services. The Athletic Trainer establishes a plan of care, implements individual treatments using appropriate techniques, and monitors outcomes, adjusting the plan as needed. They identify factors affecting patient comfort, advocate for patients, and plan for after-visit summaries, including home exercise programs and patient teaching. Documentation of patient care is essential, following department policy. The role also includes patient positioning, transferring, and transporting duties, requiring lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge of age-appropriate care principles and possess the ability to assess and interpret patient status based on age-specific needs.
