About The Position

Capital Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine (COSM) is looking for a Clinical Assistant to join our team! This is a great opportunity for a healthcare professional who enjoys working directly with patients, supporting physicians, and being part of a fast-paced clinical environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid Iowa driver's license
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Strong verbal, written, and customer service skills
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions
  • Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and regulations
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification
  • Must obtain and maintain required professional certification
  • Mandatory reporter certification for both children and adults
  • Candidates must hold an active certification or license in one of the following areas: Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Radiologic Technologist [RT(R)], Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), or Kinesiology certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians and clinical leads with patient care and movement throughout the clinic
  • Room patients, obtain medical histories and chief complaints, and accurately document information in the EMR
  • Provide direct assistance to physicians and physician assistants in and out of exam rooms
  • Process prescription requests according to physician orders and established protocols
  • Prepare and document physician orders for surgeries, diagnostic testing, and other recommended services
  • Obtain surgical consents according to physician and facility protocols
  • Complete screening questionnaires for diagnostic testing and surgical procedures
  • Apply and remove casts, splints, and DME supplies and complete required billing documentation
  • Provide patients with post-operative instructions and education according to physician protocols
  • Assist with suture removal as directed
  • Perform X-rays according to physician protocols, when applicable
  • Clean and stock exam rooms
  • Ensure equipment and instruments are properly sterilized and ready for the next clinic day
  • Provide professional, compassionate customer service to patients, families, physicians, coworkers, vendors, and other partners
