About The Position

The Graduate School of Professional Psychology (GSPP) is seeking a Clinical Assistant Professor for the International Disaster Psychology: Trauma and Global Mental Health (MAIDP) Program. This is a 10-month, part-time benefited faculty role in the clinical professional series. Responsibilities include teaching, service, administration, and scholarship. The position reports to the Co-Directors of the MAIDP Program and works closely with the Director of the Trauma Disaster Recovery Clinic. GSPP aims to transform mental health and wellness through innovative academic programs and experiential training, focusing on developing exceptional practitioners and scholars with a well-rounded approach to education. The MAIDP program, established in 2005, provides specialized training in trauma, disaster, and global mental health, integrating academic coursework, supervised clinical training at the Trauma and Disaster Recovery Clinic (TDRC), and domestic/international field placements. The program emphasizes global mental health, including workforce development in low-resource communities, reducing stigma, and expanding beyond Western treatment models. GSPP is committed to diversity, inclusion, and providing culturally competent services.

Requirements

A doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology or a closely related field
Licensed or licensed-eligible in Colorado
At least two years of teaching, training, supervision and/or applied research experience at the doctoral level
Expertise in the area of global mental health, cultural psychology, trauma interventions, and/or disaster mental health
Extensive knowledge and experience in the field of global mental health and/or disaster mental health, intervention, applied research and/or program evaluation
Strong understanding and knowledge of Inclusion principles: The ideal candidate should possess a deep understanding of DEI or related concepts and demonstrate the ability to apply inclusive practices in the classroom and other relevant settings.
Familiarity with inclusive practices and ability to integrate them into teaching methodologies: The candidate should be able to articulate their grasp and use of inclusive practices, and be prepared to provide a statement as part of the application process that highlights their commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment and implementing inclusive teaching strategies.
Knowledge and experience in the intersection of global public health, global mental health delivery and/or disaster mental health
Knowledge, experience and skills to effectively engage with diverse individuals, culture, and communities
Strong teaching and interpersonal skills
Graduate level teaching experience
Project management or grant experience

Spanish language proficiency
Experience delivering mental health care in Spanish language
Experience in delivering culturally responsive care with Spanish speaking and Latin American populations

Responsibilities

Teach practice-informed courses to fulfill needs of the MAIDP program.
Provide high-quality advising for students.
Maintain high teaching standards informed by best practices in pedagogy and leveraging available technologies.
Provide clinical supervision and participation in competency exams.
Pursue professional development to enhance leadership.
Orient entering students and new faculty and staff to clinic processes, policies, expectations, and requirements.
Provide mentorship and constructive feedback to supervisors to promote best clinical practices and appropriately address conflicts between supervisors and students.
Provide clinical oversight and assign incoming and transferring cases to student therapists and supervisors.
Create effective quality assurance processes to ensure required student paperwork is correctly completed.
Engage with community members to increase visibility of the TDRC.
Create fundraising and grant-writing opportunities to pursue meaningful opportunities for innovation in service provision.
Exhibit good citizenship through collaboration and service on committees to support GSPP, the University, community, and national and global efforts to improve the practice of psychology.
Participate in the MAIDP admissions process.
Uphold GSPPs commitment to inclusive excellence and to be a model workplace through all professional activities.
Conducting and guiding applied research, mentoring/supervising student participation in that work, producing scholarly work and securing external funding.
Negotiate scholarship expectations with the MAIDP Program Co-Directors based on the administrative focus of this role.
