About The Position

This role combines the responsibilities of a Clinical Assistant and a Patient Service Representative. The Clinical Assistant provides patient care in collaboration with the healthcare team, completes basic rooming standards, ensures accurate documentation in electronic health records (EHR) systems, prepares patients for examination and procedures, and assists clinicians during patient exams. The Patient Service Representative handles patient registration, insurance setup, verifies demographics, schedules appointments, collects payments, and answers patient questions. Both roles require prior computer experience and involve attending education and training seminars, maintaining a safe work environment, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Prior computer experience required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • General knowledge of Accounts Receivable
  • Vital sign measurement (training available)
  • CNA experience preferred
  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire
  • BLS certification

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Greets patients, caregivers, and visitors to the department in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Completes basic rooming standards per departmental guidelines such as obtaining height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure.
  • Ensures accurate documentation in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Prepares patients for examination and procedures.
  • Helps clinician or clinical support staff during patient exams or minor procedures.
  • Cleans and restocks exam rooms.
  • May order department supplies.
  • Registers patients, sets up insurance, and verifies demographics each time a patient arrives at the clinic.
  • Assists with processing patient paperwork, forms, and referrals.
  • May schedule and verify patient appointments.
  • Attends education and training seminars.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and complies with standards for safe practice and standard precautions.
  • Monitors monthly update of MN Healthcare Programs.
  • Identifies primary care providers.
  • Answers patient questions, including billing, and provides directional needs.
  • Collects patient payments and co-pays at each visit.
  • Works closely with clinicians and nursing staff.
  • Performs internal and external patient referrals.
