The Bronson Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (BADDL) and the Department of Comparative, Diagnostic, and Population Medicine (CDPM) at the University of Florida-College of Veterinary Medicine (UF-CVM) invite applications for a full time, Clinical Asst/Assoc/Professor of Clinical Pathology. This position is a multi-mission non-tenure track position in the CDPM that is promotable following UF-CVM guidelines. The position will be headquartered in Kissimmee, Florida and will perform clinical (80%) and extension (20%) duties at the BADDL. The candidate will function primarily as a clinical pathologist at the BADDL. The diagnostic caseload includes a variety of companion animals, livestock, avian and wildlife species. Interaction with veterinarians, owners, and livestock producers is an integral part of this position. Creative use of diagnostic case material including publication of results in appropriate journals is encouraged. The successful candidate will have daily interaction with the current pathologists and the resident at the BADDL. Additionally, the candidate may have limited opportunities to teach DVM and/or graduate students or engage in research at the UF-CVM depending on the candidate’s qualifications and interests. University and public service through departmental, college and university committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate activities is expected. The faculty hire must have experience in diagnostic cytopathology, hematology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis, and have the ability to independently sign out cases, in support of the clinical pathology service. The BADDL clinical pathology service is supported by a high quality, high volume, and diverse caseload with submissions from outside practices. The clinical pathology laboratory is well-equipped and includes dedicated sections for cytopathology, hematology and clinical chemistry, endocrinology (Siemens Immulite® 2000xpi), urinalysis, and other specialty analyses. Current tests offerings are listed on the BADDL website. The incumbent will provide diagnostic and consultative services to veterinary practitioners, animal owners and producers, and regulatory officials. The incumbent is expected to develop a working knowledge of routine laboratory assays and obtain proficiency for testing in the assigned area, maintaining a working knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and utilizing this tool for case coordination and reporting. The incumbent is also expected to provide mentorship, coaching, training, and guidance to residents, and will train employees who are assigned to clinical pathology section, as needed. Consultation with in-house pathologists, professional laboratory staff, the National Veterinary Services Laboratory (NVSL), and university pathologists, is anticipated. Fully accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD), the BADDL provides quality diagnostic services for all animal species, including necropsy, bacteriology, serology, histopathology, virology, parasitology, and molecular diagnostics. As a national leader and the premier animal disease diagnostic laboratory in the state of Florida, it serves veterinarians, animal owners, livestock and poultry industry, educators and researchers to protect animal and human health. BADDL processes about 34,000 cases each year and conducts more than 80,000 tests annually. The incumbent will be responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc.) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner. They will perform other duties as assigned. The UF-CVM is the sixth-ranked College of Veterinary Medicine in the US and is the only one that is part of a top 10 public research university The CVM is located on campus in close proximity to the College of Medicine and numerous other Health Sciences units that provide ample opportunities for translational research and collaboration.
