About The Position

This position may be assigned or rotate between any or all of the Mille Lacs Health System clinics. The Clinical Assistant (CA) is a multi-skilled role designed to provide support for clinic operations within the scope of practice, under the direct supervision of the clinic Manager. CAs are expected to have knowledge of and utilize appropriate age-related protocols for the physical and psychological needs of clients from infant/child through geriatrics. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, independent, and able to work effectively with team members. A strong understanding of medical terminology, medical equipment/supplies, and medication dosing, storage, and administration is required. The ability to work amidst multiple distractions while maintaining excellent interpersonal skills is essential.

Requirements

  • BLS Certification
  • Valid driver's license (travel between clinic locations may be necessary)
  • Certification or registration from an accrediting body such as the AAMA or the ARMA (must successfully pass Certified Medical Assistant exam within six months of hire) OR a Minnesota practical nursing license through the Minnesota Board of Nursing
  • Knowledge of nursing principles, policies, procedures, and medical ethics equivalent to years of experience
  • Excellent communication skills across disciplines and at various levels
  • Attention to detail, organization, and prioritization skills
  • Basic Computer skills and comprehension including Word

Responsibilities

  • Rooming of clients, including taking height, weight, blood pressure, visual acuity, and color vision screening.
  • Performing and documenting all necessary information in the medical records for nurse visits, patient encounters, and medication refills.
  • Administering and documenting oral and injectable medications and vaccinations.
  • Accurately preparing and routing electronic and faxed medication refill requests.
  • Performing reception/clerical tasks such as scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, checking in patients, coordinating patient referrals, coordinating insurance medication prior authorizations, ordering supplies and equipment, restocking supplies, and accurately documenting phone calls and patient care.
  • Properly storing, handling, and administering vaccines, and determining appropriate vaccines based on patient records, age, and CDC/MDH schedules.
  • Performing and documenting Phlebotomy, EKGs, and waived lab testing.
  • Assisting physicians/PAs/CNPs with patient care by coordinating diagnostic testing and referrals to internal and external providers.
  • Collecting data for Quality initiatives.
  • Serving on various committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Willingness to train and provide a productive learning environment for students, externs, and new staff.
