About The Position

This is a primary Nurse role for Christine Mitchell, a Registered Nurse (RN) at Waverly Health Center Clinics. The RN demonstrates a caring consciousness through relationship-based care delivery, assuming responsibility and accountability for evidence-based nursing care under the supervision of a provider. The role involves utilizing judgment and skill in providing direct and indirect patient care, observation, and counsel to patients and families. The RN will also communicate with providers, managers, and other healthcare team members about changes in patients’ clinic condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Additionally, the RN will provide orientation, training, and clinical development by serving as both a mentor and consultant to other members of the clinic nursing team.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nurses.
Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including the online training modules, the employee timesheet and the performance appraisal system.
Job specific systems are also required.
Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.

Responsibilities

Maintain patients’ electronic records, accurately documenting care and services provided in a timely manner and ensuring confidentiality at all times.
Prepare patients for examination and/or tests as appropriate for nurse/provider visit.
Assist with exams and minor office procedures as needed.
Provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients, demonstrating knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures considering needs specific to the standard of care for the patient's age and their clinical condition.
Maintain knowledge of and administer/refill prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques and as ordered by provider.
Maintain accurate patient charges for services and equipment used.
Observe and monitor patient condition and notify the responsible provider of patient conditions and activities or unanticipated reactions to care provided.
Maintain responsibility for the welfare of assigned patients, including critical and life-threatening patient conditions.
Recognize the need for and be able to perform life-saving measures if necessary.
Triage patient telephone calls, assess condition, and advise on symptomatic treatment as needed according to office protocols and/or schedule an appointment with a provider.
Effectively communicate with patients, families, providers, outside agencies, and hospital personnel regarding patients' hospitalization and/or clinic visit.
Work with other members of the nursing services staff to maintain the continuity of care of the clinical patient.
Use tact, patience, and understanding when dealing with patients, treating them with respect and dignity at all times.
Provide teaching for patient and family members, adapting teaching to a language and style understood by all parties.
Reinforce teaching as needed.
Maintain responsibility for problem-solving regarding patient care.
Initiate contact with appropriate resources and initiate actions for concerns identified.
Exercise independent judgment in the care of patients and seek assistance from the proper personnel when appropriate.
Seek assistance from the manager when appropriate.
Act as a clinical resource, sharing knowledge with other clinic staff.
Interact effectively with staff in order to accomplish safe, quality care for all clinic patients.
Participate in the evaluation and monitoring of the quality of nursing care within the clinic, and collaborate with other nursing/medical staff to structure patient care.
Assist in developing strategies to improve the clinical competencies of nursing staff and others working in the clinic setting.
Complete and maintain a professional portfolio.
Maintain the condition of equipment and supplies related to patient care.
Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly at all times, and provide for the repair, restocking, or replacement of supplies and equipment.
Conduct a monthly supply/pharmaceutical sample audit removing any outdated items.
Maintain a working knowledge of patient referral processes, including scheduling tests/procedures, contacting insurance companies for prior authorization, and documenting telephone encounters.
Follow up on all lab and diagnostic imaging results, all outstanding orders, and ensure all orders and prescriptions have been electronically transmitted or faxed prior to the end of each day.
Perform Lab QA checks, lab collection, and processing procedures.
Adhere to all applicable WHC and regulatory requirements.
Manage supply ordering processes, including the removal of expired supplies.
Perform IRIS/VFC reconciliation and documentation.
Assist the provider in maintaining the CDSS/Alerts/Recall System.
Scan incoming or outgoing paper documents and organize documents within the EMR as instructed, checking for accuracy and clarity.
Manipulate scanned documents so they are easily read.
Utilize Standard Precautions as appropriate.
Demonstrate appropriate instrument safety precautions/care when cleaning, disinfecting, and preparing instruments for sterilization.
Carry out medical asepsis during treatments and special procedures.
