About The Position

This is a primary Nurse role for Christine Mitchell at Waverly Health Center Clinics. The Registered Nurse (RN) demonstrates a caring consciousness through relationship-based care delivery, assuming responsibility and accountability for evidence-based nursing care under the supervision of a provider. The RN will utilize judgment and skill in providing direct and indirect patient care, observation, and counsel to patients and families, communicating changes in patient condition to providers and the healthcare team. Additionally, the RN will serve as a mentor and consultant to other members of the clinic nursing team, providing orientation and clinical development.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nurses.
  • Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
  • Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including online training modules, employee timesheet, and performance appraisal system.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a clinic setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain patients’ electronic records, accurately documenting care and services provided in a timely manner and ensuring confidentiality.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and/or tests, assist with exams and minor office procedures.
  • Provide direct and indirect nursing care, administer prescribed medications and treatments, and maintain accurate patient charges.
  • Observe and monitor patient condition, notifying providers of changes or reactions to care, and perform life-saving measures if necessary.
  • Triage patient telephone calls, assess condition, and advise on symptomatic treatment or schedule appointments.
  • Effectively communicate with patients, families, providers, outside agencies, and hospital personnel regarding patient care.
  • Work with other nursing staff to maintain continuity of care.
  • Use tact, patience, and understanding when dealing with patients, treating them with respect and dignity.
  • Provide teaching for patients and families, adapting to their language and understanding.
  • Problem-solve regarding patient care, initiate contact with appropriate resources, and exercise independent judgment.
  • Act as a clinical resource, sharing knowledge with other clinic staff and interacting effectively to ensure safe, quality care.
  • Participate in the evaluation and monitoring of nursing care quality and collaborate to structure patient care.
  • Assist in developing strategies to improve the clinical competencies of nursing staff.
  • Complete and maintain a professional portfolio.
  • Maintain condition of equipment and supplies related to patient care, managing and operating equipment safely.
  • Perform repair, restocking, or replacement of supplies and equipment, and conduct monthly audits of supplies and pharmaceutical samples.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of patient referral processes, including scheduling tests/procedures and obtaining prior authorization.
  • Document telephone encounters, capture pertinent data, and notify providers of patient conditions.
  • Manage eCW fax in-box, follow up on lab and diagnostic imaging results, outstanding orders, and ensure all orders and prescriptions are transmitted daily.
  • Perform Lab QA checks, lab collection, and processing procedures.
  • Adhere to all applicable WHC and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the supply ordering process, including the removal of expired supplies.
  • Perform IRIS/VFC reconciliation and documentation.
  • Assist providers in maintaining CDSS/Alerts/Recall System.
  • Scan incoming or outgoing paper documents, organize documents within the EMR, and check for accuracy and clarity.
  • Utilize Standard Precautions, demonstrate appropriate instrument safety precautions, and carry out medical asepsis during treatments.
