About The Position

MercyOne Northeast Iowa provides expert health care to eight counties, offering excellent, personalized care close to home. With 491 licensed beds across three medical centers, MercyOne is equipped to provide 24-hour emergency lifesaving care. MercyOne Medical Group – Northeast Iowa comprises over 30 clinics throughout Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Benton, Butler, Fayette, and Tama counties. MercyOne Parkersburg Family Medicine is a primary care branch serving patients of all ages, providing comprehensive care from routine visits to managing chronic pain and guiding patients to specialists when needed. This role is for a Clinic RN at MercyOne Parkersburg Family Medicine, responsible for delivering safe, effective, and evidence-based patient care in an outpatient setting. The RN will coordinate care, support patient and family education, ensure communication across healthcare teams, and maintain clinical standards, potentially with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • Active RN License in the state of Iowa; Licensure from other states may be required based on location. Compact State License acceptable where applicable.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within 3 months of hire.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills (Windows environment, web-based navigation, email, MS Office).
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • Requires the ability to read, write and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patient, visitors, and colleagues while performing their job duties.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care in outpatient settings.
  • Deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Coordinate care provided by other clinical staff.
  • Support patient and family education.
  • Ensure communication across healthcare teams.
  • Accountable for clinical standards.
  • Plan, assess, intervene, and provide direct patient care using critical thinking and nursing processes.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments (physical, psychosocial, nutritional, functional, safety, spiritual, cultural, educational).
  • Make nursing decisions based on patient status and care needs.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely via multiple routes and document accordingly.
  • Perform nursing care, lab and diagnostic tests, specimen collection, phlebotomy, and limited radiology procedures.
  • Assist providers with patient care, phone/mail/fax communications, scheduling, consents, admissions, referrals, and outpatient procedures.
  • Communicate and collaborate with physicians, staff, patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members regarding care plans and patient needs.
  • Educate patients, families, and clinical staff on treatments, medications, test preparation, discharge, and health maintenance; document education and evaluate understanding.
  • Participate in staff meetings, committees, quality improvement, risk management, and performance improvement projects.
  • Maintain documentation accuracy and completeness in EMR: assessments, vitals, symptoms, treatments, medications, education, charges, lab results, histories, and consults.
  • Maintain and monitor supplies, equipment, medication stock, and office machines; follow maintenance and quality control protocols; report malfunctions.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergency patient needs and initiate emergency procedures.
  • Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures.
