The Clinic Medical Assistant/Care Coordinator supports healthcare providers and clinical staff by performing both clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient clinic operations and high-quality patient care. This role is essential in creating a safe, organized, and compassionate environment for patients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1–3 years of experience in a clinical or medical office setting preferred
  • Experience with EHR systems and basic clinical procedures preferred
  • Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals
  • Documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year)
  • Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination
  • Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine
  • Documented proof of Tdap immunization
  • Documentation of a two-step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T-Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months
  • Vaccine records or evidence of immunity are required prior to 1st day of scheduled work.
  • Animas Surgical Hospital is a drug free workplace and performs a pre-employment drug screen which includes marijuana.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred
  • Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred or required per clinic policy

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during clinical procedures
  • Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and patient information accurately
  • Communicate effectively with providers and administrative teams to ensure continuity of care
  • Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked exam rooms
  • Document patient care and maintain accurate patient records in electronic health record (EHR) systems
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for patients regarding scheduling, care plans, and general inquiries
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, procedures, and next steps in a clear and compassionate manner
  • Verify insurance information and assist with pre-authorizations as needed
  • Follow infection control, safety, and HIPAA guidelines at all times
  • Assist with front desk tasks, including patient check-in and check-out
  • Handle phone calls, messages, and patient inquiries as needed
  • Support inventory management and ordering of medical supplies
  • Support quality improvement initiatives related to patient experience
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuing education
  • Performs other duties as assigned
