About The Position

MercyOne Genesis is seeking a Clinic Lab Technician to join their team. This role involves the procurement of blood samples from patients of all ages using venous and capillary techniques. The technician will utilize the Laboratory Information System for ordering and resulting lab tests, and educate patients on proper specimen collection for urine, stool, and sputum. Responsibilities include reviewing provider orders for accuracy, processing specimens according to requirements, and preparing specimens for transfer to reference laboratories. The technician will also perform waived and moderately complex CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serology under supervision, and maintain accurate records for quality control and maintenance. The role requires teamwork in a fast-paced environment, adhering to the organization's standards of behavior.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Additional course work up to 1 year in healthcare studies.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
  • Comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • Possess a personal presence characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring, with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health and MercyOne.

  • Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomist or other healthcare studies preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Procure blood samples via venous and capillary techniques from patients ranging in age from infant to geriatric.
  • Utilize the Laboratory Information System for activating, ordering, and resulting laboratory orders.
  • Educate patients in the proper collection of specimens such as urine, stool and sputum.
  • Review orders from providers, maintaining accuracy in ordering tests; occasionally call providers' offices to obtain orders.
  • Process specimens in the appropriate way, including looking up specimen requirements, centrifuging and separating as necessary, and storing at the appropriate temperature.
  • Readies specimens for transfer to reference laboratories, including completing the required paperwork and ensuring STAT specimens are processed and transported in a timely manner.
  • Perform both waived and moderately complex CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serology areas under guidance and supervision.
  • Keep accurate records, such as temperature monitoring, quality control for all laboratory testing and daily, weekly and monthly maintenance.
  • Work together as a team in a fast paced environment to care for our patients while demonstrating Genesis Health System's standards of behavior.
