About The Position

The Clinic Assistant supports the daily operations of the Lazarus Free Medical Clinic under the direction of the Clinic Manager. This role handles a wide range of administrative and operational support tasks and serves as backup to the Clinic Manager. The Assistant must be able to interact professionally with patients and staff in a fast-paced environment, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient. Support may include assisting with volunteer recruitment and retention, maintaining patient files, scheduling appointments, and coordinating volunteer certifications.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a similar position.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and electronic medical record systems.
  • Experienced in researching and compiling data from the internet.
  • Proficient in communication media technology.
  • Must be flexible with regard to work hours and responsibilities.
  • Must have good telephone skills with a hospitable demeanor.
  • Must have excellent proofreading and writing skills.
  • Must understand priority of inquiry, so attention to detail is important.
  • Must have a good command of spoken and written English language.
  • Must multi-task and manage time well.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish language required.
  • Experience with telehealth platform(s) a plus.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of generalized arithmetic.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic correspondence.
  • Be knowledgeable of sovereign immunity statutes and regulations.
  • Comply with all DOH Volunteer Healthcare Professional Program (VHCPP) requirements including completion of essential forms and contracts for volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Clinic Manager with the recruitment and retention of medical and non-medical volunteers.
  • Responsible for filing documents and ensuring that these are current and professionally managed.
  • Greet the public professionally, screen calls, and schedule appointments using the electronic medical record system.
  • Interpret for patients and providers.
  • Complete intake and discharge of patients.
  • Attend assignments and long-term projects offered by management.
  • Manage e-mail and internet correspondence.
  • Maintain confidentiality, security, and safeguarding of all clinic files and assets.
  • Maintain security of the clinic in coordination with the Clinic Manager.
  • Master electronic medical record (EMR), telehealth, and other required databases and systems.
  • Produce reports utilizing excel spreadsheets and mathematical equations as required.
