About The Position

The BBH Investment Research Group (IRG) is the centralized investment team within BBH’s Multi-Family Office (MFO) business responsible for asset allocation, portfolio construction, manager selection and monitoring, risk management, and other investment-related decisions for clients. IRG oversees over $56 billion in assets invested in over 25 internal and external investment strategies. The Client Portfolio Management & Strategy (CPMS) team, a new team within IRG, is responsible for communicating investment thinking to client teams and clients. This Client Portfolio Manager role reports to the Head of CPMS and is integrated into the investment team, staying current on investment managers and portfolio strategy. The CPMS team collaborates with the Investment Research Team, Relationship Managers, and the Investment Operations & Analytics Team. The Client Portfolio Manager will represent BBH’s multi-asset class investment portfolios to clients and prospects, working directly with them to present BBH’s investment strategies and overall portfolio approach. This involves interacting with clients as an investment representative, performing ad hoc investment analyses, and overseeing asset allocation and portfolio construction with the client’s Relationship Manager. Responsibilities include preparing and presenting portfolio proposals and reviews, providing updates on investment manager strategies, contributing to written content, and responding to investment inquiries. The role also involves capturing portfolio insights, conducting research projects, and performing ad-hoc analyses, requiring strong synthesis of research findings, investment writing, and presentation skills. Investment collateral may cover macroeconomics, investment themes, portfolio composition, performance, rationale for holdings, and investment decisions. Staying informed about markets and managers on the BBH platform is crucial. The CPMS team supports client-facing activities across US offices, with a focus on Boston and Philadelphia, requiring periodic travel.

Requirements

  • BA or Equivalent
  • 8+ years of relevant investment-related experience.
  • Blend of investment acumen and client experience.
  • Demonstrated interest in and ability to represent a multi-asset class portfolio of exceptional investment managers.
  • Strong conceptual and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trusted relationships.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills, including data analysis.
  • Experience managing and/or mentoring colleagues.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products, particularly PowerPoint and Excel, required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an IRG investment expert for BBH’s taxable and non-taxable clients, communicating investment philosophy and portfolio approach.
  • Work with the Investment Team to stay current on portfolios and communicate with clients about managers and performance.
  • Participate in client meetings and document key takeaways, ensuring timely deliverables.
  • Provide analytics on client portfolios, including private equity modeling, portfolio look-throughs, capital gains, and tax information, in collaboration with the Investment Team, CPMS, and Relationship Managers.
  • Monitor legacy managers or individual holdings not covered by the Investment Research Team.
  • Engage in IRG investment discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Support Relationship Managers by providing information on the investment platform and assisting with data requests.
  • Create client-specific materials, reports, and thought pieces.
  • Draft communications for relationship teams, including manager summaries, top holdings summaries, and ad hoc commentary.
  • Assist in onboarding new client relationships.
  • Oversee timely and thoughtful responses to Relationship Management/client inquiries, including organizing responses and FAQs.
  • Assist in developing a process for CPMS to help Relationship Managers ensure client portfolios align with investment policy statements.
  • Recommend rebalancing when market movements cause portfolios to deviate from targets.
  • Monitor and analyze portfolio exposure data for client policy portfolios.
  • Analyze market and macroeconomic developments that may influence investment decisions.
  • Write market commentary to inspire client confidence by highlighting risk monitoring.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, investment manager updates, market, and macroeconomic developments relevant to portfolio construction and client communication.
