Client Engagement Specialist
About The Position
The Montgomery County Public Defender Office is seeking a Client Engagement Specialist to join their team. The office handles all aspects of indigent criminal defense across juvenile, misdemeanor, felony, and appellate divisions, with a staff of attorneys, social workers, investigators, client engagement staff, administrative assistants, and a paralegal. They are committed to a culturally diverse staff with expertise and interest in serving a diverse clientele. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to indigent defense, possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required
- A valid driver’s license
- Daily access to a vehicle
- Ability to drive during the course of daily employment is required
- Strong attendance record
- Strong work ethic
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system
- Prior experience working in a court setting
Responsibilities
- Appearing in courts around Montgomery County to screen and qualify clients for Public Defender services
- Appearing in jail to screen and qualify clients for Public Defender services
- Covering court and jail appearances when co-workers are out of the office
- Staffing the reception area in the office, which includes answering phones and managing client walk-ins
- Ensure assigned paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely manner
- Coordinate as needed with client supports, community resources, treatment providers, and court staff to facilitate client success
- Perform all other assignments as assigned by the Public Defender
