About The Position

Directly accountable to the Manager, Recreation and Volunteer Services, the Volunteer Services Clerk/Typist Receptionist provides typing, clerical and receptionist support for Volunteer Services and Recreation Services. Duties include routine typing, filing, photocopying and reception tasks. Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (e.g. utilizing personal, protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifies their Manager or their designates (i.e. supervisors) of all occurrences, injuries illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co· workers, or any others who enter the premises.

Requirements

  • A minimum of one year's experience performing general clerical/office duties, preferably in a health care setting.
  • Minimum of one year's experience in a position dealing directly with the public.
  • Experience in typing a variety of material.
  • Experience in the utilization of personal computers in the performance of secretarial duties.
  • Experience working with or for a volunteer organization.
  • Successful completion of secondary school education with formal training in keyboarding, clerical functions and basic stenographic skills.
  • Successful completion of a word processing course and/or comparable experience or on-the-job training.
  • Knowledge and support of The vision, values, goals , and objectives of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and the Deer Lodge Centre.
  • Knowledge and support of The Deer Lodge Centre's Mission Statement, Residents Bill of Rights and Code of Conduct.
  • Knowledge and support of Personal Health Information Act, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
  • Knowledge of personal computer hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of filing systems, record keeping and statistics.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of the philosophy and focus of the Centre's Volunteer programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and volunteers and the elderly .
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to handle competing demands and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain accurate files and records.
  • Ability to work well in stressful situations.
  • Possession of effective public relations skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of grammar, spelling and punctuation in the English language.
  • Tact , reliability, tolerance, empathy and adaptability when dealing with the public, volunteers ,staff, patients and residents.
  • Typing speed of a least 65 wpm with not more than a 5% error rate.
