About The Position

The Radiology Clerk works with centralized scheduling in scheduling patients and referring providers. If needed, pre-admit scheduled appointments and call physicians for orders. Obtain appropriate lab information. Provide lab with written orders for radiology patients needing lab work. Understands preps and time requirements for imaging exams. Maintains and distributes the daily radiology schedule. Pre-admits scheduled appointments. Assists the technologists in various clerical duties.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with scheduling imaging exams which include: CT, US, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Fluoroscopy, and general radiology procedures.
  • Understand required patient preps for all radiology exams that are scheduled.
  • Explain radiology exams to patients and answer questions they may have.
  • Arrange for patients to pick up needed supplies, such as BE prep kits or CT oral contrast.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality while interacting with public, physicians, and co-workers.
  • Make CD’S and telerading images to appropriate outside facility.
  • Perform reception duties; answering phone, taking messages, paging overhead, and transferring calls as needed.
  • Perform film control duties; requesting/pushing images, merging images.
  • Keep office stocked with clerical supplies and radiology forms.
  • Handle continuance of care information release/film transfer.
  • Handle Legal, personal information/film requests.
  • Track and manually send reports that were not automatically sent to the ordering provider.
  • Merge Patient accounts in Pacs to match account in Cerner.
  • Oversee the CT Lung cancer screening program. Review patient charts to ensure they meet all criteria under Medicare and USPSTF. Make sure the order and diagnosis codes are appropriate. Contact providers to correct any errors or notify if patient doesn’t qualify. After review and approval, send order to scheduling. Upload patient data into the NRDR website for the ACR. Send out patient result letters based on Lung Rads noted on the radiology report. Track when patients are due for their follow up exams, send a request to the patient’s primary care provider for the appropriate order and send the patient a reminder letter to call and schedule their exam.
  • Track mammography follow up exam recommendations based off of the Radiologists report and request appropriate orders from primary care providers to send to scheduling.
  • Make sure Mammography chart notes and prior reports are printed daily for the radiologist and summarized in the exam notes for the technologist.
  • Make sure prior images are requested and received for all diagnostic mammography exam orders prior to sending to scheduling.
  • Request all prior imaging for screening mammograms.
  • Transfer mammography images to the Radiologist viewer and mammography tech workstation prior to the next days scheduled appointments.
  • Track and log exam report errors, follow up with Radia or onsite radiologist to make sure these are corrected so we can correctly bill the profee. Make corrections in patients’ chart to reflect these changes.
