About The Position

This is complex clerical and financial work reviewing, processing and recording specialized records with substantial financial impact in an automated office environment. Areas of assignment could be any of the departments under the Clerk of the Circuit Court. Employees in this class review and process a wide variety of legal documents and financial records which may include cashiering, auditing and/or accounting related work. The employee is expected to exercise a high degree of independent judgment based on experience and knowledge of department operations. Deviations from standard policies and procedures are referred to a higher level for decision. This is a service oriented position, which provides information to the general public and court related personnel in response to inquiries.

Requirements

  • 2 years’ experience in cashiering or accounting and practical skills in the use of computer equipment; or An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

  • Knowledge of legal terminology, grammar, spelling, math and bookkeeping methods.

Responsibilities

  • Provide courteous and professional customer service.
  • Communicating diplomatically with co-workers, the public, the law community and the court.
  • Assist customers at the counter, by mail and by phone with inquiries related to Traffic, County Criminal, Circuit Criminal, Juvenile, and Dependency cases.
  • Accept, research, and validate payments received over the counter, by mail or bonds. Accepting payments by telephone.
  • Process witness fee payments and/or juror payments.
  • Verify and balance daily cash drawer transactions, witness fee funds, and/or juror funds.
  • Intake and process injunctions and attend return hearings; working night court.
  • Generate court calendars, issue subpoenas and file stamp pleadings.
  • Process various reports (i.e. credit card payment report, delinquent payment plan report, outstanding lien report and others as designated).
  • Prepare correspondence, copy and certify documents, and complete record searches.
  • Assist with training other FRS
  • Making phone calls to customers for the purpose of collecting on judgments.
  • Process judgment liens and satisfaction of judgments.
  • Other related job duties.
  • Assisting supervisors and/or management with special projects upon request.
  • Performs related work as assigned, or required.
