Clerical Associate - Observation
About The Position
As a Clerical Associate on the Midtown Observation Unit, you help keep the unit running smoothly so nurses, physicians, and support staff can provide high-quality patient care. You’ll manage communication, coordinate daily workflow, assist with documentation, and provide excellent service to patients, families, and clinical teams. This role requires strong organization, clear communication, and comfort using technology in a fast-paced environment. Working on the Observation Unit gives you hands-on experience with clinical communication, patient flow, electronic medical records, and unit coordination. You’ll strengthen skills in multitasking, teamwork, customer service, and supporting a busy care environment. With structured orientation, frequent leadership check-ins, and a supportive team, you’ll build confidence quickly and develop a strong foundation for future growth in healthcare administration or clinical support roles. The Observation Unit is a 23-bed unit with remote telemetry capabilities, caring for patients who need short-term evaluation and monitoring as test results guide decisions for admission or discharge. The team cares for a wide range of patient conditions, making it an excellent environment to strengthen critical thinking and time-management skills.
Requirements
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within six months of hire
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Successful completion of Epic training as required
Responsibilities
- Coordinate activity at the nurse’s station
- Support nurses, providers, patients, and visitors
- Manage phones, call lights, communication, and paging
- Maintain forms, supplies, and patient education materials
- Assist with admissions, discharges, and EMR tasks
- Help keep the unit safe, organized, and running smoothly
