About The Position

Carl Zeiss X-ray Microscopy is seeking a Cleanroom Manufacturing Technician to build precision ultra-high-vacuum components and subassemblies used in advanced X-ray source production. The role involves assembling, inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and improving high-precision vacuum, mechanical, and electromechanical assemblies while following controlled procedures and cleanroom protocols. The position reports to the Production Line Manager and is based in Dublin, California, primarily in a Class 10K cleanroom and adjacent production and test areas. The position is assigned to swing shift. For the first three months, the schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; it then transitions to Monday through Friday, 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The annual pay range is $31.73 to $39.42. The position is also eligible for a performance bonus or sales commissions. ZEISS offers medical plans, a retirement savings plan, paid time off, vision and dental coverage, 401(k) matching, employee assistance programs, and vacation and sick pay. The work environment is primarily a Class 10K cleanroom and adjacent production and test areas with controlled environmental conditions. Employees must follow gowning, cleanliness, safety, and material-handling requirements. Noise is generally moderate but may vary with production or test activity. Steel-toed shoes and other required personal protective equipment may be required. The role requires meticulous, procedure-driven work, fine motor control, visual inspection, and effective communication and collaboration within a small production team.

  • Proficiency using precision tools and instrumentation such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical inspection systems, ultrasonic cleaners, welders, mass spectrometers, helium leak detectors, and digital multimeters.
  • Ability to read and apply engineering drawings, assembly procedures, schematics, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements.
  • Experience building high-precision mechanical, vacuum, electrical, or electromechanical assemblies to controlled procedures.
  • Knowledge of Kanban and Lean manufacturing.
  • Experience with microscopes and other inspection tools.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and current Windows systems.
  • Ability to generate, read, and red-line assembly procedures and schematic diagrams based on personal and engineering feedback.
  • Ability to work independently, communicate technical issues clearly, and collaborate effectively within a small production team.
