Cleanroom Manager, Space

Anduril•Costa Mesa, CA
•$146,000 - $194,000•Onsite

About The Position

Anduril’s Space Manufacturing team is seeking a Cleanroom Manager to own the day-to-day operation, readiness, and discipline of its Space Manufacturing lab spaces across three locations: the operational HQA space lab, a temporary cleanroom under construction, and a new facility under construction and graded ISO 5–8. The spaces support development and low-rate builds of spaceflight hardware, including assembly, integration, and testing of ground support equipment, PCBA, unit-level, and integrated systems. The role owns cleanroom and contamination-control programs, lab safety practices, equipment and calibration readiness, and materials and consumables flow. The Cleanroom Manager works with corporate facilities, EHS, metrology, supply chain, quality, engineering, operations, vendors, and program teams to keep lab systems and compliance programs effective, coordinate work across sites, and transition work into the new facility. This is a hands-on working-lead role: the manager performs lab, cleanroom, and equipment work directly while helping hire, mentor, and direct technicians and specialists as the sites scale. The position is on-site full-time in a fast-paced hardware environment.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years operating or managing a manufacturing lab, cleanroom, or comparable controlled production environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical/science discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience operating or managing an ISO-classified cleanroom (ISO 5–8 or equivalent) or another contamination-controlled environment.
  • At least 2 years working with cleanroom systems, including environmental and particle monitoring, gowning and air-shower discipline, certification requirements, and working knowledge of supporting HVAC/AHUs.
  • Hands-on safety experience with hazardous-material and compressed/specialty-gas handling and storage, including at least 1 year as a floor- or lab-level safety point of contact.
  • Experience managing lab equipment, calibration/metrology, asset tracking across 50 or more tools/assets or a comparable-scale lab, and receiving, inventory, and consumables flow.
  • Experience owning readiness for at least 2 distinct lab or cleanroom spaces, or a multi-room/multi-building site, including coordinating moves and new-space stand-up.
  • At least 2 years leading or mentoring a team, formally or as a team lead, while remaining hands-on and helping hire and develop others.
  • Experience building and enforcing procedures and keeping a lab audit-ready.
  • Willingness to work on-site full-time in a fast-paced hardware environment and coordinate across engineering, operations, quality, and vendors.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Subject to pre-employment and randomized substance screening as required by the Company.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2 years in aerospace, defense, semiconductor, medical-device, or optics/sensor manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with ISO 5 (Class 100) operations and cleanliness requirements for open-die, optical, or sensor assembly.
  • Experience standing up a new lab or cleanroom, or bringing at least one new cleanroom phase or area online.
  • Familiarity with relevant quality and workmanship standards, such as IPC-610/620, AS9100, and the NASA-STD-8739 series.
  • Experience coordinating EHS programs and specialty-gas/hazardous-material storage at scale.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Own daily operation and readiness of the HQA space lab, the 3030 temporary cleanroom, and the new facility, including gowning and anterooms, air showers, test bays, assembly zones, and storage.
  • Own contamination-control programs, including gowning protocols and throughput, continuous particle monitoring, cleanroom certification cadence, and stock and flow of garments, gloves, and wipes.
  • Manage equipment, assets, and material flow across sites, including asset tracking, calibration and metrology scheduling, preventive maintenance, tool and fixture readiness, receiving, kitting, stores, and consumables.
  • Serve as the day-to-day lab safety point of contact; enforce safe work practices, oversee hazardous-material and specialty-gas handling and storage, and partner with EHS on chemical handling, permits, and audits.
  • Coordinate with corporate facilities, maintenance, and vendors on air handling units, environmental monitoring, compressed and specialty gases including nitrogen purge, repairs, moves, and space changes.
  • Develop and maintain cleanroom operating procedures, gowning and contamination-control work instructions, safety procedures, and certification and monitoring records to keep spaces audit-ready.
  • Lead the transition of work into the new facility, including planning space, systems, and support-staff needs, standing up new areas, and winding down temporary space as capabilities move.
  • Partner with AI&T, manufacturing engineering, and program teams to sequence work across sites and keep work in progress moving.
  • Work hands-on in the labs and cleanrooms while helping hire, mentor, and direct technicians and specialists as the sites scale.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers.
  • Top-tier benefits package, described as comprehensive and competitive and available at little to no cost to employees.
