About The Position

At Block by Block, Ambassadors are employed to enhance public spaces by making them friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities served. The Cleaning Ambassador role offers high visibility at the street level, performing a variety of cleaning tasks within an assigned zone. This position requires maintaining a positive, professional demeanor, actively engaging pedestrians and visitors with friendly greetings and smiles, and providing directions or city information. It is also presented as a suitable opportunity for retirees, veterans, and graduating high school seniors seeking their first job.

Requirements

• Valid Driver's License REQUIRED
• Ability to drive a vehicle w/ trailer attached
• Ability to climb a ladder
• Maintenance background
• Power tool knowledge and usage
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.

Nice To Haves

• Experience preferred, but not required. We will train.

Responsibilities

• Provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the zone assigned.
• Maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and/or city information.
• Remove litter (fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris) from streets, sidewalks, and alleys while moving through the zone with a rolling trash can and supplies/tools.
• Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, etc.
• Pull weeds that grow at the base of tree wells, in cracks in the sidewalks, and in vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids, news boxes, etc.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to the Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
