About The Position

Block by Block California employs Ambassadors to make public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities it serves. The Cleaning Ambassador works visibly at street level, completing a variety of cleaning tasks in an assigned zone while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor. The role also involves greeting and assisting pedestrians and visitors with directions or city information, and reporting unwanted behavior or possible criminal activity to Safety Ambassadors by two-way radio. The position requires creating basic daily reports in English. The schedule is to be determined and must include weekends.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least 18 years of age.
Successfully pass a background check and drug test.
Ability to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
Ability to work outdoors in all conditions.
Ability to speak, read, and write English to create basic reports.

Nice To Haves

One year of cleaning experience preferred; training is provided.

Responsibilities

Complete a variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor.
Acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting or smile, and provide directions or city information.
Remove litter from streets, sidewalks, and alleys while moving through the zone with a rolling trash can containing supplies and tools.
Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, and similar surfaces.
Pull weeds from tree wells, sidewalk cracks, and vacant lots.
Damp-wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces such as trash can lids and news boxes.
Watch for unwanted behavior or criminal activity and report it to Safety Ambassadors using two-way radios.
Complete basic daily reports of tasks performed.
