About The Position

New York Tech’s Long Island campus seeks a Cleaner to perform routine custodial and cleaning duties and maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment in accordance with established standards and procedures. The position is covered under the 32BJ Collective Bargaining Agreement and is scheduled Monday through Friday, 5:00 PM to 1:00 AM. Duties include cleaning and disinfecting buildings; handling trash and recycling; manually sweeping and mopping; cleaning surfaces using manual and mechanical methods; cleaning light fixtures; foaming showers and restrooms; selecting and mixing cleaning chemicals; and sanitizing and disinfecting surfaces and fixtures. The Cleaner may restock bathroom supplies and may optionally complete Facilities condition assessments or inspections to communicate conditions through the University or Department. The employee must take direction from NYIT Administration, Management, and supervisory teams in a timely and professional manner.

Requirements

Previous professional cleaning industry experience is required.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds, bend and stoop, climb a six-foot ladder, and work near or in confined spaces and storage rooms.
Must have a valid New York State Driver's License.
Must adhere to NYIT policies and procedures, including time and attendance requirements and policies governing NYIT-issued uniforms.

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

Clean and disinfect buildings, including handling trash, recycling, bottles, and paper.
Sweep and mop surfaces manually.
Scrub, strip, wax, vacuum, extract, shampoo, dust, polish, and buff surfaces manually or mechanically.
Clean light fixtures and foam showers and restrooms.
Select and mix cleaning chemicals properly.
Sanitize and disinfect surfaces and fixtures using cleaning equipment and hand tools.
Restock bathroom supplies as needed.
Follow direction from NYIT Administration, Management, and supervisory teams in a timely and professional manner.
Optionally complete Facilities condition assessments or inspections and communicate conditions through the University or Department.
