About The Position

The Cleaner supports Shop Operations and reports to the Shop Superintendent and/or their designee. The role performs tasks that support fabrication and shop operations, including handling work pieces, assisting with fitting and welding, preparing materials for movement, removing surface imperfections, and cleaning work areas and equipment. The position operates in a non-climate-controlled production/manufacturing environment and routinely uses hand tools. Hearing protection is required.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED and/or three months of training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
Ability to draw and interpret charts and graphs.
Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.
Must be familiar and comfortable using grinders, scrapers, hammers, and other handheld tools.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds consistently, with heavier weights necessary at times.
Must be able to stand for at least 90% of the shift.
Regularly required to talk and/or hear; frequently required to stand, walk, handle or feel objects, and reach with hands and arms; occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.

Current OSHA certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

Lift, position, and remove work pieces, and assist with fitting and welding.
Hold tape rods and mark reference points to assist in layout.
Attach chains and other handling equipment to material in preparation for movement by crane or jib.
Clean buckshot, burrs, and other surface imperfections resulting from fabrication prior to load out.
Clean work areas, machines, tools, and equipment.
