About The Position

This position is for an Alternative Classroom Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The role requires punctuality, reliability, and responsibility. The teacher is expected to have prepared lesson plans, exercise proper care of materials and equipment, and communicate classroom needs effectively. The position involves maintaining a positive classroom climate conducive to learning, managing instruction to ensure student success, and evaluating student performance to plan future lessons. Compliance with district policies regarding controlled substances, tobacco, alcohol, and professional conduct is mandatory. The teacher must not verbally or physically harass students, use profanity in their presence, or engage in any sexual contact with students.

  • Approved Certification with State of Kentucky.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill requirements of punctuality, reliability, and responsibility.
  • Have a prepared lesson plan sufficient for instructing the lesson.
  • Exercise proper care of materials and equipment.
  • Communicate the needs of the classroom to the proper personnel.
  • Arrive for work at the assigned hour and do not leave before the assigned time.
  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with other staff members, parents, students, and administration.
  • Accept assistance, advice, and guidance from supervisors and make a concerted effort toward improving skills.
  • Share ideas, plans, materials, and facilities.
  • Be alert to the district’s, school’s, and his/her own goals and priorities and seek professional development appropriate to these needs.
  • Keep in confidence information obtained in the course of professional service, unless disclosure serves a professional purpose or is required by law.
  • Respect the rights, feelings, and differences among individuals, and communicate directly with the person(s) involved in any situation.
  • Comply with state and local restrictions pertaining to the use of controlled substances, tobacco products, alcohol, and dress.
  • Do not verbally or physically harass students.
  • Do not use profanity in the presence of students.
  • Do not have any sexual contact with students.
  • Employ classroom management techniques that result in an atmosphere for teaching/learning in which students can know what they are expected to do.
  • Begin the class promptly.
  • Communicate to students those behaviors expected of them, or ensure expected behaviors have been communicated.
  • Ensure students exhibit classroom behaviors that allow for maximum on-task behavior.
  • Intervene immediately and appropriately with inappropriate behaviors.
  • Choose appropriate materials and/or equipment for teaching a lesson.
  • Handle efficiently the materials and/or equipment in the classroom setting.
  • Plan effectively with respect to establishing teaching strategies that allow students to attain the lesson’s behavioral objective.
  • Utilize a clinical approach to teaching (adequate diagnosis and prescription of evidence by students’ learning).
  • Use Diagnostic Lesson Plan Format, Instructional Lesson Plan Format, or Review Lesson Plan Format, as appropriate.
  • Ensure the behavioral objective for the lesson is appropriate for the learners.
  • Recognize student differences in needs, abilities, and interests and impart instruction so that these differences are met.
  • Tell the student exactly what is to be learned in the lesson.
  • Tell the student the purpose of the learning and make it meaningful to their lives.
  • Relate the learning from the lesson being taught to previous learnings and verbalize transfer for the students.
  • Inform students how they will be accountable for demonstrating proficiency in the learning.
  • Give students information about the learning.
  • Demonstrate sound, up-to-date knowledge of the subject matter being taught.
  • Check periodically throughout the lesson for students’ understanding of the objective.
  • Provide practice experiences for students of the appropriate number and variety to ensure mastery of the objective.
  • Carefully monitor guided practice to ensure students receive immediate feedback on their performance.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of reinforcement theory throughout the lesson.
  • Ensure each aspect of the lesson provides evidence of the teacher’s attention to maintaining a classroom climate conducive to learning (Feeling Tone).
  • Ensure the activities of the lesson demonstrate the teacher’s desire to include the interests of the students in the classroom.
  • Encourage, praise, and/or acknowledge student effort appropriately.
  • Manage instruction in such a way that each student shows some measure of success.
  • Ensure practice is scheduled in a manner that guarantees retention of learnings.
  • Give students the opportunity to verbalize the critical attribute(s) of the learning before leaving the lesson.
  • Collect data from the lesson that enables evaluation of each student’s performance and assists in planning tomorrow’s lesson.
