About The Position

The Classroom Teacher II is responsible for creating and maintaining a positive and effective learning environment for young children. This role involves direct interaction with children, collaboration with parents and colleagues, and meticulous record-keeping to support child development and program compliance. The teacher will implement curriculum, assess progress, and ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all children in their care.

Requirements

  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • Have an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood or related field with 18 college credit hours in Early Childhood Education, OR a state-issued Teaching License to act as a pre-kindergarten or early childhood (regular or special education) teacher if the Associate's degree is not related.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have basic computer skills to include data entry and internet.
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Hold a valid driver's license with adequate car insurance.
  • Employment references are required.
  • Must complete SIDS & Shaken Baby Training prior to working with children.
  • Must complete Fire Extinguisher Training.
  • Must obtain proof of certification in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid within 30 days or sooner if required by local/state regulation.
  • Must register in the State Childcare registry.
  • Criminal background check prior to employment.
  • Physical exam and TB screening test showing absence of Tuberculosis within 30 days of employment or sooner if required by local/state regulation.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred teaching experience with children ages 0-5.
  • Preferred Bilingual in Spanish and English (oral and written).

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, complete, and track all required home visits and parent/teacher conferences.
  • Schedule and complete child developmental screenings and assessments.
  • Ensure collection of and timely online entry of classroom observations and documentations.
  • Complete assessment finalization checkpoints for all children within the specified time frame.
  • Use assessment results to create/update individualized plans in conjunction with parents to address each child’s needs and track child’s progress.
  • Plan and implement indoor and outdoor learning environments and experiences using the Creative Curriculum System, UMOS School Readiness Plan, and the Head Start Early Learning Outcome Framework.
  • Implement daily activity plans, field trips, and transition activities.
  • Submit completed, legible, required documents to the Child Development Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Implement Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) for children with disabilities, integrating Individual Goals into plans and lesson planning, and tracking progress.
  • Maintain required documentation on children and classroom activities (child roster/absentee list, meal count, classroom child file, case notes, developmental screenings, assessments, etc.) and submit written reports to the Child Development Coordinator.
  • Maintain and document written and verbal communication with families regarding developmental progress and other pertinent information using the PFCE Framework.
  • Maintain and document the Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) within the classroom in accordance with regulations, including conducting and participating in family style meals.
  • Implement required health and safety policies and procedures, including storage of materials, health and safety checklists, daily child observation, diapering, injury/accident prevention, child accident reports, sanitizing, cleaning, and universal precautions.
  • Participate in the ongoing weekly generation and collection of non-federal shares (In-kind).
  • Use positive guidance strategies to help children learn, monitor, and promote positive behaviors.
  • Conduct direct sight and sound supervision of all children at all times and demonstrate active supervision.
  • Communicate, assist, and work with other staff in the coordination and assistance with arrival and departure of children, set up and clean-up of environments, and work with bus staff to ensure clear communication between center and parents.
  • Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and center activities as assigned.
  • May be requested to assist in training and/or supporting other teaching staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
