About The Position

This position is responsible for planning and implementing learning environments and experiences for children, adhering to various educational frameworks such as the Creative Curriculum System, UMOS School Readiness Plan, and the Head Start Early Learning Outcome Framework. The role involves detailed documentation, communication with families, and ensuring health and safety standards are met. The teacher will also utilize positive guidance strategies and maintain active supervision of children.

Requirements

  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood or related field with 18 college credit hours in Early Childhood Education, OR a state-issued Teaching License to act as a pre-kindergarten or early childhood teacher.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have basic computer skills to include data entry and internet.
  • Have reliable transportation; hold a valid driver's license with adequate car insurance.
  • Work flexible and/or irregular hours with some travel.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a physical exam and TB screening test.
  • Employment is contingent upon completion of SIDS & Shaken Baby Training.
  • Employment is contingent upon completion of Fire Extinguisher Training.
  • Employment is contingent upon proof of certification in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid.
  • Employment is contingent upon registration in the State Childcare registry.

  • Preferred teaching experience with children ages 0-5.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, complete, and track all required home visits and parent/teacher conferences.
  • Schedule and complete child developmental screenings and assessments.
  • Ensure collection and timely online entry of classroom observations and documentation.
  • Complete assessment finalization checkpoints for all children within the specified time frame.
  • Use assessment results to create/update individualized plans in conjunction with parents to address each child’s needs and track progress.
  • Plan and implement indoor and outdoor learning environments and experiences using the Creative Curriculum System, UMOS School Readiness Plan, and the Head Start Early Learning Outcome Framework.
  • Implement daily activity plans, field trips, and transition activities, submitting completed documents to the Child Development Coordinator.
  • Implement Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) for children with disabilities, integrating Individual Goals into plans and lesson planning.
  • Maintain required documentation on children and classroom activities, including child roster/absentee list, meal count, classroom child file, case notes, developmental screenings, and assessments, and submit written reports.
  • Maintain and document the Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) within the classroom.
  • Conduct and participate in family style meals according to UMOS procedure.
  • Implement required health and safety policies and procedures, including storage of materials, health and safety checklists, daily child observation, diapering, injury/accident prevention, child accident reports, sanitizing, cleaning, and universal precautions.
  • Participate in the ongoing weekly generation and collection of non-federal shares (In-kind).
  • Use positive guidance strategies to help children learn, monitor, and promote positive behaviors.
  • Conduct direct sight and sound supervision of all children at all times and demonstrate active supervision.
  • Communicate, assist, and work with other staff in the coordination of arrival and departure of children, setup and cleanup of environments, and work with bus staff to ensure clear communication.
  • Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and center activities as assigned.
  • May be requested to assist in training and/or supporting other teaching staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
