About The Position

The Classroom Teacher II is responsible for implementing early childhood education programs, including scheduling and conducting home visits, parent-teacher conferences, developmental screenings, and assessments. The role involves creating and updating individualized learning plans based on child needs and progress, planning and implementing learning environments and experiences using specific curriculum systems, and maintaining detailed documentation of child progress and classroom activities. The teacher will also manage health and safety policies, use positive guidance strategies, and ensure direct supervision of children at all times. Collaboration with other staff, participation in meetings and trainings, and potential assistance in training other staff are also key aspects of the position.

Requirements

  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • Have an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood or related field with 18 college credit hours in Early Childhood Education, OR a state-issued Teaching License to act as a pre-kindergarten or early childhood (regular or special education) teacher if the Associate’s degree is not related.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have basic computer skills to include data entry and internet.
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Hold a valid driver's license with adequate car insurance.
  • Employment with UMOS is contingent upon successful completion of: Criminal background check prior to employment.
  • Physical exam and TB screening test showing absence of Tuberculosis within 30 days of employment or sooner if required by local/state regulation.
  • Complete SIDS & Shaken Baby Training prior to working with children.
  • Fire Extinguisher Training.
  • Proof of certification in Infant/Child CPR and First Aid within 30 days or sooner if required by local/state regulation.
  • Register in the State Childcare registry.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred teaching experience with children ages 0-5.
  • Preferred Bilingual in Spanish and English (oral and written).

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, complete, and track all required home visits and parent/teacher conferences.
  • Schedule and complete child developmental screenings and assessments.
  • Ensure collection and timely online entry of classroom observations and documentation.
  • Complete assessment finalization checkpoints for all children within the specified timeframe.
  • Use assessment results to create/update individualized plans in conjunction with parents to address each child’s needs and track child’s progress.
  • Plan and implement indoor and outdoor learning environments and experiences using the Creative Curriculum System, UMOS School Readiness Plan, and the Head Start Early Learning Outcome Framework.
  • Implement daily activity plans, field trips, and transition activities.
  • Submit completed, legible, required documents to the Child Development Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Implement Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) for children with disabilities, integrating Individual Goals into plans and lesson planning, and tracking goal progress.
  • Maintain required documentation on children and classroom activities, including child roster/absentee list, meal count, classroom child file, case notes, developmental screenings, and assessments.
  • Submit written reports to the Child Development Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Maintain written and verbal communication with families using the PFCE Framework regarding developmental progress and other pertinent information.
  • Maintain and document the Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) within the classroom in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, including conducting and participating in family-style meals.
  • Implement required health and safety policies and procedures, including storage of materials, health and safety checklists, daily child observation, diapering, injury/accident prevention, child accident reports, sanitizing, cleaning, and universal precautions.
  • Participate in the ongoing weekly generation and collection of non-federal shares (In-kind).
  • Use positive guidance strategies to help children learn, monitor, and promote positive behaviors.
  • Conduct direct sight and sound supervision of all children at all times and demonstrate active supervision.
  • Communicate, assist, and work with other staff in the coordination and assistance with arrival and departure of children, setup and cleanup of environments, and work with bus staff to ensure clear communication between center and parents.
  • Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and center activities as assigned.
  • May be requested to assist in training and/or supporting other teaching staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
