About The Position

To create and maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning and to provide positive educational experiences for all students. The Classroom Monitor will have a minimum of 180 student days of employment during the school year, minus any days of absence. They will report to the specified school each day, or to a school in the zone that needs a substitute teacher if the specified school does not. The role involves assuming the student supervision responsibilities of the regular teacher, accurately reporting homeroom attendance, and maintaining good classroom control, discipline, and management. The Classroom Monitor will follow provided lesson plans and develop their own where appropriate, teaching up to a maximum of seven periods per day. They may also be required to participate in Innovation Zone activities and administer discipline in accordance with Florida Statutes and School Board policies, with corporal punishment being forbidden. Familiarity with the assigned school's procedures, such as bell schedules and fire drill procedures, is expected. The position requires performing and promoting all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies, participating in training programs, reviewing current developments related to job responsibilities, ensuring adherence to safety rules, and following federal, state, and School Board policies. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Earned sixty (60) semester credit hours from an accredited institution.
  • Attend and complete the Substitute Teacher Training Workshop during the current school year. Classroom Monitor will have the full year to complete this training.
  • Must qualify for a Broward County Substitute Teaching Certificate.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Have a minimum of 180 student days of employment during the school year, minus any days of absence.
  • Report to the specified school each day, if the specified school does not need a substitute teacher, then report to a school in the zone which does need a substitute teacher.
  • Assume the student supervision responsibilities of the regular teacher.
  • Be responsible for accurately reporting homeroom attendance in accordance with the procedures at the assigned school.
  • Maintain good classroom control, discipline and management.
  • Follow the lesson plans provided by the teacher and develop lesson plans, where appropriate, approved by the department head or the team leader.
  • Teach up to a maximum of seven (7) periods per day.
  • Classroom Monitor may be required by the Principal to participate in Innovation Zone activities during the Classroom Monitors regular workday.
  • Administer discipline, in accordance with Florida Statutes, regulations of the State board, and policies of the School Board. Corporal punishment is forbidden.
  • Be familiar with assigned school's procedures (i.e., bell schedule, fire drill procedures, school discipline plan).
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
  • Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
  • Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
