About The Position

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) is seeking a Classification Specialist. This role involves processing paperwork related to inmate classification, conducting inmate interviews, creating and issuing ID cards, data entry, maintaining files, responding to inmate inquiries, and generating statistical reports. The position requires demonstrated skill in using computers and office equipment, efficient time management, and the ability to work shifts that may include weekends and holidays. Effective verbal and written communication skills, with an awareness of human diversity, are essential for interacting with citizens and colleagues.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Possess either an associates degree, 60 equivalent hours from an accredited college or university, or pass the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test.
  • For civilians, a minimum passing score of Verbal - 248 and Quantitative - 241 on the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of computer and office equipment.
  • Efficient time management skills.
  • Ability to work shifts which may include weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbal and written, demonstrating an awareness for human diversity to citizens and colleagues.
  • Must submit a complete report of passing Wonderlic scores directly to the SCSO.
  • Must submit to a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Must submit to a polygraph examination.
  • Must submit to medical examinations.
  • Must submit to drug and tobacco screening.
  • Must submit to a psychological examination (for certified and communications positions).
  • Agree to have a background investigator with the SCSO review any social networking websites.

  • FDLE certification documents (for certified positions).

Responsibilities

  • Processing appropriate paperwork from corrections services and operations pertaining to the classification of inmates within the facility.
  • Conducting interviews of inmates.
  • Creating and issuing ID cards for inmates.
  • Data entry.
  • Maintaining files.
  • Responding to inquiries from inmates.
  • Creating and maintaining statistical reports.
  • Performing other related duties deemed necessary by the bureau commander.
