About The Position

Upper Merion Area School District is hiring a Class C-1 Turf Maintenance Mechanic for the 2026/2027 school year. The role performs grounds and turf maintenance, equipment maintenance and repairs, flower-bed care and construction, field preparation, and snow removal. The employee may be asked to work extra hours to cover emergencies or special activities. The stated pay range is $34.94–$43.68.

Requirements

High school diploma.
Experience with landscape maintenance, grass cutting, and ornamental plant installation and maintenance.
Demonstrated competence in maintaining and repairing mowers and other equipment.
Ability to interact and cooperate with fellow workers and supervisors in a team approach to grounds maintenance.
Demonstrated record of working cooperatively and effectively with others.
Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.

Responsibilities

Operate mowers, weed trimmers, and other garden and turf equipment for turf maintenance.
Maintain and repair equipment, including troubleshooting and correcting repairs or improvements related to grounds, equipment, and controls.
Maintain flower beds by planting, weeding, and building beds.
Apply pesticides or herbicides, or use fertilizers, as directed and in accordance with required training and certification.
Perform snow removal with available equipment as required, including driving district-provided plows or pushers, snow throwers, shoveling, or operating salt spreaders.
Empty outside trash cans and keep fields and parking lots free of trash.
Lay out and line playing fields.
Install, break down, and store athletic equipment and goals as needed.
Pick up and deliver supplies, equipment, and landscape products as needed.
Read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
Survey buildings to determine needed repairs and develop plans for completing them.
Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies, and promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Operate equipment such as bucket loaders, backhoes, gas- and diesel-powered lawn mowers, and leaf blowers for landscaping and turf maintenance.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
