About The Position

The 1/C Fleet Mechanic performs diversified, unusual, and difficult work involving the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment, using considerable judgment and skill. The role inspects mechanical conditions, diagnoses and repairs vehicle issues, rebuilds worn or broken parts, and follows recognized shop practices. It also creates and maintains work notifications and work orders to administer the maintenance and repair program.

Requirements

Extensive knowledge of heavy-duty and automotive mechanics, including internal combustion engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, and other components.
Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams, instruction manuals, repair manuals, and parts lists.
Proficiency using scales, micrometers, feeler gauges, heavy- and light-duty scan tools, and automotive testing equipment.
Degree in automotive or heavy-duty truck repair, or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 5 years of experience repairing heavy- and light-duty vehicles and equipment, including air brakes, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, computer systems, suspension, and drivetrain systems.
Average physical demand, including occasional lifting and moving of average-weight materials in difficult work positions.

Nice To Haves

EPA 609 certificate (Automotive Air Conditioning).

Responsibilities

Operate vehicles in traffic and periodically inspect the mechanical condition of engines, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, and related components.
Repair and rebuild worn or broken equipment parts.
Diagnose and repair vehicle problems and assist others with vehicle repairs.
Use standard work methods and recognized shop practices when performing repairs.
Create and maintain work notifications and work orders for the maintenance and repair program.
