About The Position

In Business since 1919 and still growing, Arrow Transportation is an Industry Leader with a diverse platform of Triaxle, Super B and Specialized equipment work, operating Regionally within Western Canada. Arrow is looking for a Professional Lease Operator or Owner Operator Truck Drivers in Edmonton. Operators are well supported by a team of professionals that help to get them over the road efficiently and safely! As a Lease Operator for our Alberta Flat Deck Division, you will haul products that are directly related to the strength and diversity of the region. Based out of Edmonton and primarily hauling steel pipe, formed concrete or lumber, you will travel primarily around Alberta will also travel to and from British Columbia.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • A valid Class 1 truck driver’s license
  • Driver’s abstract with no suspensions
  • Super B and mountain driving experience
  • Proven ability to drive in snow and to chain tires when necessary
  • Needs to be responsible, accountable and dependable
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills both verbally and written
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
  • Computer literate
  • Basic understanding of vehicle and trailer maintenance requirements
  • Professional/mature demeanor under stressful situations
  • Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed
  • Ability to drive in other adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to move 100 pounds, lift 50 lbs overhead and lift to shoulder height 75lbs
  • Ability to sit long durations
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug test

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre and post and in route trip inspections on equipment operated, ensuring safety, roadworthiness, and regulatory compliance
  • Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, load securement, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, and weights and dimensions
  • Record, maintain and check all relevant paperwork (i.e., bill of lading,) and documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate
  • Operate onboard technology, Complete with Electronic logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status
  • Ensure that all customers, co-workers, and the public are dealt with professionally and with respect
  • Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, compliance with applicable Acts and Regulations
  • Perform pre and post and en route trip inspections on equipment operated, ensuring safety, roadworthiness and regulatory compliance
  • Comply with all rules and regulations, protocols and established metrics
  • Efficiently maneuver truck and trailer(s) into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned
  • May operate loading equipment as per role requirements
  • Check mobile equipment (i.e. frontend loaders) to ensure that mechanical and safety equipment is in good working order
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles to the relevant supervisor
  • Report all safety hazards or conditions encountered at load, unload, yard and shop sites
  • Operate equipment such as truck cab computers, CB radios, and telephones to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers
  • Complete electronic and/or manual logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable provincial and federal regulations
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with the public, customers, and co-workers
  • Assist in loading and unloading of trucks
  • Perform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that load is properly fastened down and is secure
  • Ensure that material is properly protected from the outdoor elements
  • Tarping loads may be a requirement
  • Ensure that any debris caused by the loading/unloading of truck is cleaned up
  • Provide feedback to supervisor/dispatch regarding customer problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems
  • Ensure that all customers, Arrow employee's, contractors, and the public are dealt with professionally and with respect
