About The Position

Great American Insurance Group’s Claims IT Team is seeking a Claims Lab Developer Intern for summer 2027. The intern will work with development engineers throughout the software development lifecycle and help design and develop cloud-native software, primarily using Java and JavaScript. The role supports front-end web applications and back-end services in active use, including First Notice of Loss applications and externally facing APIs for reporting information and uploading files. This is a hybrid role combining in-office and remote work, with at least three days per week in the office.

Requirements

• Ability to work in the office at least three days a week.
• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
• Knowledge of REST APIs and service-oriented architectures.

Nice To Haves

• 2028 graduation year preferred.
• Java, JavaScript, MarkLogic, and RabbitMQ are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with development engineers throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Create test cases for new code.
• Document and test new software functionality.
• Work with engineers to design and develop cloud-native software, primarily in Java and JavaScript.
• Help create front-end web applications and back-end services that are actively being used.
• Work with First Notice of Loss applications and externally facing APIs that allow people to report information and upload files.
