We are currently seeking a qualified individual for the following opportunity in our Toronto office: CLAIMS EXAMINER / COUNSEL, PROPERTY & CASUALTY TORONTO. The Claims Examiner/Counsel, reporting directly to the Vice President, Claims Specialty Insurance, will be responsible for management of property and casualty claims.

Requirements

A minimum of 5 years of experience handling property and casualty claims;
Ability to thrive in a challenging, fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong critical thinking and analytical capabilities.
Forward thinking and collaborative approach to problem solving.
Self-directed work style with the ability to operate in a nimble entrepreneurial environment.
Ability to learn quickly.
A passionate, participative, service-oriented attitude

Nice To Haves

CIP designation an asset but not required;
Law degree from a recognized university an asset but not required;
The ability to communicate verbally and in writing in both English and French, as asset but not required.

Responsibilities

Coverage evaluation.
Drafting coverage letters and other documents.
Setting claim reserves.
Communicating with insureds, counsel, third party adjusters, brokers, and claimants.
Managing litigation and negotiating settlements.
Authorizing payments as required.
Acting as a resource for various business units.
