This growth includes the addition of a dedicated Financial Institutions team as well as an experienced group of Transactional Liability underwriters furthering Berkley Professional’s capabilities. Berkely Professional Liablity is seeking a D&O claims examiner to join their team - this role is located in our Midtown Manhattan office on a hybrid schedule. The Claims Examiner is responsible for managing Directors & Officers (D&O) claims for Public Companies and Financial Institutions, primarily involving matters of low to moderate complexity. This role plays a key part in ensuring timely, fair, and accurate claim resolution while delivering exceptional service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 0-2 years of Claims handling experience or
  • 1-3 years of litigation experience, preferably as a coverage attorney.
  • Working knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance legal and regulatory environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required adjuster licenses within a 90 day period
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage all aspects of assigned claims, including legal proceedings, coverage analysis, exposure assessment, and reserve setting.
  • Make claims decisions and resolve matters in accordance with company Best Practices and within established authority limits.
  • Attend mediations and trials as required.
  • Communicate consistently and professionally with customers, brokers, and internal colleagues regarding claims status and resolution strategies.
  • Maintain accurate claims documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory and licensing requirements.
