About The Position

Provide paralegal assistance to in-house claims/litigation attorney, including to manage a caseload of litigated third-party personal injury claim files, while also working collaboratively and cooperatively with the pre-litigation claims handler, as well as the safety, workers compensation, claims, finance and other company divisions (as needed) in a team-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years in the claims and/or legal industry relating to the handling of personal injury and property damage (auto) claims.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to effectively and professionally correspond and negotiate with claimants, attorneys, insurers, etc. in order to handle claims.
  • Working knowledge of medical and legal terminology and practices.
  • Must be professional, highly organized, and detailed oriented.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace, with little supervision, and be able to multi-task.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to assess and prioritize job responsibilities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing technology.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and pleasant manner with others.
  • Knowledge of software management system for handling legal files.
  • Tech savvy knowledge of internet, operating systems, mobile devices, etc.
  • Proficient use of PC with thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Understanding of standard and currently used office equipment (e.g., copiers, scanners, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity and experience with reviewing medical records is a must.
  • Bachelor's degree, associate's degree, or paralegal certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day management of litigated third-party personal injury claims, including the gathering of pertinent accident information, documentation, and physical evidence, and support of pre-litigation claims handler.
  • Supporting outside counsel in responding to pleadings and discovery requests.
  • Managing and reviewing invoices from outside litigation counsel.
  • Analyzing and evaluating claims, including liability and medical causation issues.
  • Assist in-house attorneys with other tasks unrelated to personal injury claims, such as employment, commercial and other legal matters affecting the company, particularly litigation.
