About The Position

Physicians Mutual is seeking a Life Claims Examiner to join its Claims team. The role reviews and evaluates life insurance claims by analyzing policy provisions, death certificates, and supporting documentation to determine accurate claim outcomes. The examiner communicates with beneficiaries and other parties, ensures compliance with state regulations, and makes timely payment or denial decisions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong communication skills, including above-average written and verbal communication for corresponding with policyowners and other interested parties.
• Ability to read policy contracts.
• Ability to handle complex claim situations and assess situations and apply learned concepts in complicated claim scenarios.
• Ability to operate a PC and applicable programs and applications.
• Problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
• Ability to function effectively in a production environment while producing high-quality work.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new insurance coverages, procedures, and state guidelines.
• Basic math skills to calculate benefits and interest.

Nice To Haves

• A minimum of 1–2 years of previous life insurance or related experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate information received and follow state regulations to make appropriate payment or denial decisions.
• Conduct thorough investigations of received correspondence and online information, as necessary, to resolve claims.
