About The Position

We are seeking a Claim Director/Team Lead-Major Case Unit to oversee the handling of complex, high-exposure Personal Umbrella Liability claims including auto, premises, and personal liability, with policy limits typically ranging from $1 to $5 million. This role requires a strategic thinker with a proven ability to manage complex claim investigations and evaluations while ensuring optimal outcomes for our clients.

Requirements

• Typically requires a bachelor’s degree.
• 10+ years of relevant legal or technical claims experience, with a strong background in handling complex, high-exposure third-party liability claims on a primary/excess basis.
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
• Proven ability to work effectively with primary carriers and defense counsel, with in-depth knowledge of umbrella/excess handling and management of outside counsel.
• Extensive knowledge of case law, statutes, and procedures impacting liability claims in Florida, California, New York, and Texas, among others.
• Ability to manage and develop a team of highly skilled claim professionals to ensure increased performance.
• Strong analytical skills to navigate complex claim processes and develop effective solutions.
• Innovative mindset with the ability to drive improvements within the claims department.
• Excellent communication skills to convey findings and recommendations clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

• A Juris Doctorate degree with relevant defense litigation experience would be beneficial but is not required.
• Significant personal or commercial auto experience would be beneficial.
• Significant experience with policy limit demands in Florida, Texas, and California.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement training of Technical Claim Managers and Technical Claim Directors.
• Oversee the handling of complex, high-exposure Personal Umbrella Liability claims across the United States, emphasizing detailed investigation, evaluation, and monitoring of primary carrier activities to achieve the best results.
• Investigate and analyze complex coverage issues, providing clear and detailed coverage letters as necessary.
• Conduct timely and comprehensive investigations into liability and damages to recognize exposures early.
• Focus on effective resolution strategies, including timely liability investigations, damage assessments, and reserve setting.
• Proactively and strategically manage litigation around the country, including selecting and managing outside counsel and implementing effective litigation strategies in disputed claims.
• Ensure adherence to RLI's Best Practices in all claims handling activities.
