The Marion Civilian Police Academy is a 9-week interactive program designed to foster a better understanding and build relationships between citizens and the Marion Police Department through a series of evening classes. Classes will meet every Wednesday evening from 6 pm to 9 pm, starting September 2nd and concluding with graduation on October 28th. The program is instructed by members of the Marion Police Department. Enrollment is limited to 20 participants and applications are processed on a rolling basis, with screening beginning immediately. The program may close before the July 31, 2026 deadline once all spots are filled. Early application is strongly encouraged. The program is open to individuals aged 18 and older, with preference given to residents of the City of Marion. The cost for the 9-week program is $20. Applications will be kept on file for future sessions if the Fall 2026 spots are filled. Upon application approval, the Marion Police Department will contact participants to collect the $20 fee to secure their spot. The classes offer an in-depth look into various aspects of law enforcement, providing an educational and informative experience. Participants will learn about issues affecting law enforcement in Marion and how to develop a partnership with the police department. The program includes unique 'hands-on' opportunities in law enforcement tasks such as patrol operations, investigations, traffic enforcement, emergency response, and community policing. Additionally, participants can opt for an optional shadow with 911 Dispatch and participate in a patrol ride-along.
