About The Position

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is recruiting for Civilian Uniformed Personnel (CUPS). This role involves performing duties that relieve police officers from street duty, either in a mobile or static security position. The position provides customer service to the citizens of Maryland and ensures compliance with MTA policies. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply. Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency certificate.
  • Able to work 40 hours per week.
  • Able to work variable shifts, evenings, holidays, and weekends based on the needs of the Maryland Transit Administration.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned duties to relieve a police officer from street duty.
  • Perform fare inspection and enforcement services to ensure patron compliance with the MTA's self-service fare policy on the MTA Light Rail system.
  • Inspect and verify the validity of tickets and/or passes on a daily basis.
  • Prepare detailed reports and other documents as assigned.
  • Provide information to patrons regarding Light Rail services.
  • Coordinate activities with related MTA Police or other MTA Operations personnel.
  • Assist in special assignments such as the Transit Ambassador Program and/or other operations or police activities.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.
  • Maintain visibility among patrons and employees to preserve order and protect property.
  • Answer telephone calls and provide information during non-business hours or when the switchboard is closed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to all safety rules, policies, regulations, and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Participate in safety meetings.
  • Report hazards, unsafe acts, near misses, injuries, and accidents immediately to the Office of Safety and supervision.
  • Refrain from willful violations of safety rules and procedures, reckless and negligent behavior, involvement in criminal activities, and the misuse of drugs or alcohol.
