About The Position

This is part-time (no more than 25 hours per week) technical work assignment in the investigation of fraud and property crime offenses. The class works according to procedures; decides how and when to do things under general supervision.

Requirements

Must possess a High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) equivalency; supplemented by course work in modern police work and investigative techniques.
At least five (5) years of experience as a Police Detective/Investigator.
Knowledge of laws and ordinances governing local police work, business English and spelling, report writing skills, State Statutes, office practice and procedures, and codes used in radio communications.
Skilled in investigative techniques, use of certain police equipment, operation of motor vehicles.
Applicant must have the ability to work with high degree of independence, understand and execute difficult oral and written directions, access, and input and retrieve information from a computer, learn assigned investigative tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routines.
Applicant must also have the skill set to meet and deal courteously with the general public; interview victims, witnesses, and suspects in a professional manner; deal courteously with unruly, concerned parties of all cases; effectively and harmoniously communicate with other employees; prepare clear and comprehensive reports; react quickly and calmly in emergencies.
Applicant must be able to execute duties firmly, tactfully and impartially; and have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.

Responsibilities

Investigate Felony Property Crimes, to include fraud and grand theft.
Collect and preserve information and evidence.
Coordinate with Sworn Detectives to conduct searches and make appropriate referrals of cases to outside agencies.
Participate in gathering intelligence information.
Check sources of information.
Take statements.
Attend and testify in court.
Coordinate with Sworn Detectives to obtain and execute warrants.
Identify and recover stolen property.
Prepare written reports of complaints and investigations.
The investigator may be assigned or assist in property room management.
The investigator may log in property or review evidence.
Maintain follow-up investigative reports and assist victims of Felony Property Crimes.
Work in conjunction with the State Attorney’s Office and other outside agencies as needed.
