About The Position

This position is with the State of Ohio, specifically the Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC). The BWC is the state agency responsible for workers' compensation insurance, promoting workplace safety, and ensuring quality medical and pharmacy care for injured workers. The agency aims to be an agile organization driven by customer success and delivers consistently excellent experiences for each BWC customer every day. Requirements

  • 12 months of training or 12 months of experience in conducting investigations of complaints or possible violations of laws & rules or agency/company policies & procedures.
  • OR completion of an associate degree program core coursework in law enforcement.
  • Knowledge of BWC claims and/or operating systems (CoreSuite).
  • Knowledge of criminology, criminal justice or law enforcement.
  • Knowledge of BWC, state & &/or federal statutes, rules, regulations & procedures applicable to investigations, evidence gathering & search & seizure.
  • Knowledge of public relations, interviewing, case preparation, LEADS operator rules & regulations, and human relations.
  • Skill in operation of personal computer, word processor, database & spreadsheet software.
  • Skill in analytical software used in fraud detection.
  • Skill in using surveillance equipment (e.g., 35 mm cameras, camcorders, mini cameras, undercover audio recording devices).
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to gather, collate, classify information about data, people or things.
  • Ability to prepare meaningful, concise & accurate reports.
  • Ability to conduct interviews effectively.
  • Ability to assess immediate situations & make split-second decisions.
  • Ability to handle sensitive inquiries from & contacts with officials & general public.
  • Ability to safely handle irate &/or dangerous citizens.
  • Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions & take appropriate action.

Responsibilities

  • Researching, reviewing, and preparing initial case data for all SID allegations.
  • Answering calls from the BWC Fraud Hotline and talking to external sources of allegations (e.g., public, employers, law enforcement agencies, other government entities).
  • Initiating data runs and utilizing criminal justice databases for investigative teams.
  • Developing spreadsheets to document, categorize, and analyze evidence (e.g., financial records, employment records, billing & claims data).
  • Attending team meetings, case briefings, and internal/external trainings.
