Under general supervision, serves legal orders and matters of a civil nature from Hamilton County Courts which are civil (e.g. Chancery, Circuit, Sessions, etc.) serves out of county, out of state and federal court papers sent to Hamilton County; and performs related duties as assigned. This role involves serving legal documents and matters of a civil nature from the Hamilton County courts, including civil, chancery, circuit, and sessions court. The deputy serves process on individual matters (non-criminal in nature), all out-of-County, out-of-state, and federal court papers sent to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, and handles large volumes of process. Responsibilities include recording information on each process served, searching for individuals to serve process, serving detinues, summons on personal property, cross actions, and levies on autos and real estate. The deputy also provides information on the status of process to be served, locates people to give them civil process, and drives to addresses or places of employment to verify residency or employment. Papers are served if individuals are located. The role utilizes telephone books and cross-reference guides to assist in locating people and streets, and documents actions to support the end result of serving process.
