About The Position

Binnie is seeking a full-time Civil Technologist to join their Landscape Architecture, Recreation and Open Spaces (LAB) team in either their Burnaby or Calgary Office. The LAB team specializes in planning, design, and construction administration for public open spaces and outdoor sports & recreation facilities for clients across Canada. The Civil Technologist will collaborate with experienced Project Managers, Designers, and Engineers on diverse projects, contributing to design work, CAD assignments, site visits, and quality management in alignment with Binnie’s Organizational Quality Management Policy (OQM). This role provides significant mentorship opportunities for professional growth.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of directly related progressive work experience in a professional civil engineering environment
  • Registered as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) with ASTTBC or as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with ASET
  • Completed diploma in civil engineering technology or equivalent from an accredited institution
  • Familiarity with construction processes with directly related field experience reviewing and evaluating work preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License and own vehicle for site visits
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and/or other applicable software used in their area of Practice
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients

Responsibilities

  • Preparing AutoCAD and Civil3D designs and drawings and completing design calculations
  • Complete error-free intermediate-level design calculations and/or verify design calculations prepared by others
  • Performing and documenting quality control checks on CAD drafting and Civil 3D work in accordance with Binnie’s quality management policies and procedures.
  • Calculating design quantities for materials and preparation of cost estimates
  • Prepare moderately complex technical reports under the general supervision of more senior project team members
  • Assisting in the preparation of project specifications and contract documents
  • Coordinate and collaborate with project team members in the production of project deliverables and provide guidance where necessary
  • Performing on-site inspection duties
