About The Position

The Civil Engineering Departments within Candu Energy are engaged in nuclear civil engineering work involving structural analysis, civil design, and ageing management to support life extension, plant modification, and service work for existing Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) and New Builds. Civil/Structural engineers are required to perform structural and seismic analysis, seismic margin assessment, and structural design, as well as prepare and issue analysis, design, and assessment documents. Candu Energy Inc. is looking to hire multiple Civil/Structural engineers for full-time term/permanent positions. The types of engineering work include structural and seismic analysis, structural design check, and assessment of structures, systems, and components. Documentation to be produced includes analysis reports, design calculations, design reports, technical specifications, and design requirements. The candidate should be familiar with the use of one analysis program such as ANSYS, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, SSASI, ETABS, SAFE, etc. This is an opportunity for those wishing to participate in the Candu Energy nuclear services business and will provide valuable career development opportunities in support of operating NPPs and New Build Civil/Structural analysis and design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred) with 3–5 years of structural design experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian codes and standards (NBCC, CSA) and core civil/structural engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software such as ANSYS, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, ETABS, SAFE, or similar tools.
  • Licensed or eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Canada; eligible for PWGSC security clearance.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capable of delivering high-quality work under tight schedules and budget constraints.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the use of one analysis program such as ANSYS, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, SSASI, ETABS, SAFE etc.
  • Experience in tools like MathCAD, ANSYS, or GTSTRUDL

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis, seismic qualification, structural design, and ageing management for various systems.
  • Prepare design calculations for steel, reinforced concrete, and masonry structures in compliance with CSA standards and relevant codes.
  • Use structural analysis software (e.g., FEA tools) to evaluate systems and components.
  • Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs, along with technical specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Support engineering teams by contributing to design packages, ensuring quality, and meeting project timelines and budgets.
  • Apply nuclear industry knowledge and standards (e.g., ASME Section III, TSSA, N285.0), with experience in tools like MathCAD, ANSYS, or GTSTRUDL considered an asset.
