About The Position

Fort Bend County is seeking a Civil Services Coordinator to manage the Civil Service Commission's operations. This role involves coordinating meetings, researching agenda items, overseeing the employee grievance process, investigating grievances, and resolving conflicts. The coordinator will also ensure policies align with state and federal regulations, coordinate promotional testing processes, and handle administrative duties for the Commission. This position is crucial for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the Civil Service Commission's functions within the Sheriff's Office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration or directly related field.
  • 3 years job related experience.
  • Strong computer and typing skills with a working knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing, and databases.
  • Management and supervisory experience with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Capability to complete assigned tasks within tight deadlines and prioritize own/others’ work.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all Civil Service Commission meeting requests and presentations with Sheriff and administrative staff, law enforcement and corrections associations.
  • Researches agenda items.
  • Oversees the Sheriff’s Office employee grievance process.
  • Investigates employee grievances and helps resolve conflicts.
  • Coordinates grievance hearings with Civil Service Commissioners, County Attorney’s Office, all involved parties with their attorneys.
  • Reviews and ensures that policies and procedures within the Commission are consistent with state and federal policies, laws and regulations, and recommends changes as necessary.
  • Coordinates with vendors and the Sheriff's Office to plan, develop, and implement the written and verbal promotional testing process.
  • Responsible for administrative duties for the Civil Service Commission.
  • Maintains and organizes information related to activities and meetings.
