About The Position

Gridworks is seeking an experienced Civil General Foreman to lead civil field operations on utility-scale solar and battery storage projects. This role is crucial for ensuring safety, quality, and operational excellence in a field-based environment. Gridworks is a leading EPC contractor in the rapidly growing clean energy sector, with a strong track record of successful project completion.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of civil construction experience on utility-scale solar PV or BESS projects, or comparable heavy civil/grading projects.
  • Previous field management or foreman experience (Required).
  • Demonstrated experience with mass earthwork, cut/fill operations, subgrade preparation, access road construction, and drainage feature installation.
  • Strong leadership skills – ability to organize, motivate, and direct crew members quickly in response to changes in schedule or scope.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil grading plans, drainage plans, and survey staking; experience with plan redlines preferred.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and assign daily work packages; track production quantities and report to superintendent.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (emphasis on Excel, Outlook, and web-based data platforms).
  • Ability to work long hours as required to support optimal crew efficiency.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Must have a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy civil equipment including dozers, motor graders, and compactors to perform rough and finish grading to design grade per GPS machine control.
  • Direct civil crew members in daily earthwork operations including mass grading, cut/fill, subgrade preparation, drainage feature installation, and access road construction.
  • Review civil drawings, grading plans, and GPS surface files prior to each shift; verify design data loaded in machine control units and coordinate with survey team on grade checks.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments, manpower, and equipment utilization to meet production targets; report daily quantities (cut/fill volumes, road footage, acres disturbed) to superintendent.
  • Inspect, install, and maintain erosion and sediment controls in compliance with the project SWPPP.
  • Identify and communicate design conflicts, field conditions, or material issues to the superintendent at least one week in advance of scheduled work.
  • Ensure equipment is fueled, serviced, and field-ready at the start of each shift; flag maintenance needs and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct daily tailgate safety meetings, document attendance, and enforce company safety policies and quality standards.
